The United Kingdom does not have a single codified constitutional document, but a body of law composed by written sources. Its most important piece of legislation concerning the EU is the European Communities Amendment Act, which was passed in 1972 in order to provide for the incorporation of EU law into the UK legal order. The UK joined the European Union in 1973.
