The Irish Constitution was adopted in 1937 and it has been reformed in 24 occasions since then. It contains 16 chapters and 50 articles. Ireland became a member of the European Union in 1973. Its Constitution includes specific provisions allowing the Irish state to ratify the different EU treaties.
