The Landscape Archaeology Laboratory (LaPa) based in the Instituto de Estudos Galegos Padre Sarmiento (IEGPS, CSIC), has a fundamental role in the coordination of the Consolider team. Within it, it coordinates some projects aimed at advancing specific objectives of the CSD-TCP.
One of the most attractive projects for the general public is the surveillance of the rehabilitation of historic buildings in the Old Town of Santiago de Compostela. Within it there is an analysis which includes archaeological control, historical and architectural evolution, conservation and preservation of each building. All the information generated by these studies is documented, analysed and recorded in order to not lose sight of the heritage-related intervention which is being done.
Following this line of integrated studies, the Spatrial project is also being developed, with the goal of developing a model definition which can express the spatial representation of heritage. In order to achieve that, elements with a structural spatial dimension which are cultural heritage must be identified and characterised, as well as the existing relationships between them. An additional challenge is to test some methods for digital and geographical representation of that information.
The 7th edition of the postgraduate course La aplicación de las Tecnologías de Información Geográfica en Arqueología ("The application of Geographic Information Technologies in Archaeology") will take place in two steps during the winter of 2012. The first phase will be the beginners module, which, as is customary, will take place in the Instituto de Arqueología de Mérida (IAM, CSIC) on February 13-22, 2012.
