Palaeoflora and palaeovegetation from the Iberian Peninsula information system
Objectives: Palaeodiversitas intends to develop an Vegetation Palaeodiversity Information System for the Iberian Peninsula. This ambitious goal will be carried out in several stages. At first PalaeoDiversitas will becoma a thematic network in which a multidisciplinary working group will study palaeoecology from the Iberian Peninsula. There bibliography and other resources will be stored. In a second phase, PaleoDiversitas will gather the published data on palaeovegetation from the Iberian Quaternary. Finally, an information system will be elaborated with the taxonomic, palaeogeographic and palaeoecological profiles, beginning in the Pliocene-Quaternary transition. The project has an interpretive and disseminational component which, even though the main strategy is based in fundamental Sciene, will be advanced in relation with biodiversity strategies, Nature databanks and sustainibility diagnostics.
Funding: Palaeodiversitas is an initiative which is funded by the Fundación Séneca (Science and Technology Regional Agency of Murcia) and by the Science and Education Ministry (MEC) through the Plan Nacional de I+D+i research project funding call (Paleoflora y Paleovegetación ibérica: Plioceno-Cuaternario project, reference code CGL-2006-02956/BOS).
Coordinator: José S. Carrión García (University of Murcia).
