Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs)

Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) are the most advanced form of presenting on-line geo-referenced thematic information, destined for scientific, administrative or social uses. Within the CSD-TCP team a nucleus of groups has become engaged in developing general protocols for creating historical and cultural heritage SDIs, with the collaboration of the technical team of the GIS Unit of the CCHS-CSIC (USIG). This compromise has taken the form of two lines of action:

  1. Contribution to the process of creating a normative framework for the development of Heritage thematic SDIs, by creating and coordinating the Historical Heritage Thematic Working Group (GTT-PAH) within the Spanish SDI Working Group (GT-IDEE) created by the Consejo Superior Geográfico (CSG). The goal of this GTT is proposing the CSG specific recommendations applicable to treating heritage information published on-line by public institutions. These recommendations will be included in the normative development of the implantation of the Inspire European Directive to Spanish legislation. Within this process the CSD-TCP groups GIPSE and EST-AP of the CCHS (CSIC), and LaPa of the INCIPIT (CSIC) and the USIG of the CCHS, together with other heritage & GIT experts and heritage administrators.
  2. Development of the "CCHS Archaeology SDI" (IDEArq): the creation of a thematic geoportal through which research results of the research groups at the CCHS (CSIC) has been planned. This experience is framed as a connection with the group's contribution to the GTT-PAH, and experimental platform from which theoretical proposals made to that Working Group can be tested. The IDEArq, designed and developed in its technological aspects in close collaboration with the USIG of the CCHS, will include databases of Levantine Rock Art, Radiocarbon dating from the Iberian Peninsula, Archaeometallurgy and Archaeobiology, as well as those Information systems already developed by some groups, such as the IDEZAM (SDI of the Las Médulas Archaeological Zone, León) or Silex (Casa Montero -Madrid- project information system).
