The Philosophy of the City Research Group is a global community of scholars who are dedicated to understanding the city and urban issues. We invite you to join us for our fifth year. For this conference, zeroing in on the research strands below remains paramount, but we welcome all relevant submissions.

Definir lo que es el gobierno urbano no es fácil. Hoy aún se encuentra en construcción una definición en la teoría. Sin embargo, por la realidad del proceso de urbanización en el mundo y especialmente en nuestro continente en las últimas décadas, es un tema que está en la base de las principales discusiones sobre lo que sucede y se vive en nuestras ciudades. En algunos casos se cree que hace referencia solamente a aquellas dimensiones de la ciudad asociadas con la administración pública y como una forma de diferenciar lo urbano de lo rural. Sin embargo, cada vez más es relevante entender la ciudad y el gobierno urbano en su amplia concepción, que incorpora la política de lo urbano, pero sobre todo, la dimensión territorial de la política y de las políticas. La relación entre niveles de gobierno al interior del Estado, el papel de las autoridades locales y nacionales (alcance de la descentralización), la vigencia y relevancia del Estado nacional y las formas de integración internacional y regional, el papel de las ciudades en la economía global, la transformación de las formas de planear y gestionar el territorio a nivel local, la relación entre el proceso urbano y el desarrollo rural y ambiental, el papel de la ciudadanía y de la participación en el desarrollo local; son hoy debates de gobierno urbano. El objetivo del Simposio es precisamente plantear, en el marco de la Red Iberoamericana de Historia y Teoría Política Urbana (RIHTPU), el estado de la discusión en cada uno de los temas en los que se discute el alcance y el papel del gobierno urbano, los actores involucrados en la toma de decisiones en el territorio (formales e informales) y las perspectivas de las ciudades en dicho marco, para el corto, mediano y largo plazo.

5. COST Action CA18126 WRITING URBAN PLACES
Writng Urban Places proposes an innovative investigation and implementation of a process for developing human understanding of communities, their society, and their situatedness, by narrative methods. It focuses particularly on the potential of narrative methods for urban development in European medium-sized cities. By recognizing the value of local urban narratives (stories rich in information regarding citizens socio-spatial practices, perceptions and expectations) the Action aims to articulate a set of concrete literary devices within a host of spatial disciplins; bringing together scientific research in the fields of literary studies, urban planning and architecture; and positioning this knowledge vis-à-vis progressive redevelopment policies carried out in medium-sized cities in Europe
